An original AC keyfob badge dating from the 1960s which we have inlaid into a new keyfob in genuine black pigskin as can be seen in the photos.
This is the only badge that we have – when this keyring has been sold this listing will be cancelled.
The badge was made in the 1960s by Melsom Products Ltd of Birmingham – at that time almost all keyrings and badges for the world’s cars were made in England – it was quite an industry.
Their name is on the back of the badge which is no longer visible as it is inlaid into the leather keyfob.
The gilt badge is in mint condition with black vitreous enamelling and will have had a ‘whiff’ of lacquer applied when it was made to keep the gilt bright.
In use this will tend to wear away and the gilt finish will remain bright whilst the keyring is used- easily brightened after a period of not being used with a smear of any metal polish of course.
A very special badge – so it deserved a special keyfob for which reason we selected black pigskin.
Pigskin was ( and is ! ) a luxurious leather which was occasionally used for keyfobs for prestige cars in the 1960s.
It was always expensive and was prized for it’s appearance and hard wearing durability which was ideal for keyfobs which receive a lot of handling.
Pigskin seems to be a thing of the past and no longer available in the grade needed for making keyfobs – the material which we use was sourced from a closed Midlands factory which had been using it for covering hip flasks and making wallets – and keyfobs- quite some time ago.
The keyring in the photos is the actual one which you will receive.
When it has been sold this listing will be cancelled.
