Aston Martin - original vintage new old stock 1960s David Brown torpedo keyring - collector's item

NOW SOLD – sorry this keyring has now been sold and can no longer be ordered

We are not licensed by Aston Martin to reproduce the Aston Martin winged logo and none of the keyrings listed here for sale in this website shop feature Aston Martin keyfob badges which have been made by us.

The keyring in this listing is an original item dating from the 1960s.

The badge on this keyring has the slightest of enamel chips in the vitreous enamel in the centre of the left hand wing.

When viewed with a magnifying glass the wing vein above the chip can be seen to have a flake of nickel plating missing – this cannot be seen with the naked eye.

We were also recently offering another almost identical keyring from the same source ( also with a tiny enamel chip ) in a separate listing but this has now been sold.

We are proud to be offering this example of this original new old stock David Brown Aston Martin torpedo keyring which dates from the 1960s.

These original Aston Martin torpedo keyrings are extremely rare and we have seen hardly any examples over the last 10 years.

The last example which we listed prior to listing this keyring and the one from the same source already recently sold was back in 2017.

All the other examples ( apart from just one ) similarly had tiny enamel chips – even new old stock keyrings of this vintage often had imperfections in the vitreous enamel  particularly when the badge design is as complex as this winged Aston Martin design.

The tiny enamel chip on the badge can hardly be seen when viewed at life size with the naked eye.

It is only when photographed at high resolution and then viewed enlarged in the listing photos that the minute chip can even be seen.

The keyring was made by Castles Unit Developments Ltd of Leicester.

CUD were the only manufacturers of torpedo keyrings and were famous in the late 1950s and right through the 1960s for the quality of their products which were exported worldwide.

The badge on this keyring is in jewellery grade quality vitreous enamel- just look at that minute detailing !

There are very few badgemakers prepared to make badges using vitreous enamel nowadays. Production has now moved onto resin based enamel which does not have the same crisp appearance and is just not the same product at all.

The badge is mounted onto a torpedo keyfob in genuine hide embossed ‘REAL MOROCCO’ MADE IN ENGLAND

We have included an under-exposed photo of the back of the keyfob to show this clearly .

Morocco leather was a term for goatskin – and the pebbly grain of the goatskin leather can be plainly seen in the listing photos.

David Brown bought Aston Martin in 1947 and then Lagonda in 1948.

He aided Aston’s transformation from a relatively small manufacturer to the concern which we see today.

He sold The Company in 1972 – the same year that the DBS ended production – but when Ford staged Aston Martin’s 1990s comeback, his DB initials were revived for the DB7.

Production dates for the motor cars for which this keyring would be correct are as follows :-

DB  2/4        1953-1957

DB Mk III   1957-1959

DB4              1958 -1963

DB5              1963-1965

DB6              1965-1970

The values of original keyrings ( particularly in this condition ) for prestige marques has rocketed in the last 2 – 3 years and the price listed reflects what we now have to pay for original torpedo keyrings of this quality.

Jaguar torpedo keyrings from the 1960s in this condition are now routinely changing hands for well over £1,000 each.

An original keyring for an XK120 Jaguar sold on ebay recently for just under £2,000 .

The keyring in the photos is the actual one which you will receive.

The expression ‘Holy Grail’ is now much over used but is relevant in the case of this keyring which is most certainly the ‘Holy Grail’ of Aston Martin keyrings – no other original Aston Martin keyring comes close to this one in terms of collectability.

When this keyring has been sold this listing will cancel. 00/576           04/21
