Austin Healey – original vintage late 1950s/ early 1960s POLCO keyring with black vinyl keyfob – collector’s item

An original vintage Austin Healey keyring which will have been produced in the late 1950s or very early 1960s.

When this keyring has been sold this listing will be cancelled.

Very few keyrings like this one will have survived over the last 60 years – we are currently listing just one other similar example but with a leather keyfob ( unless now sold )

These 2 keyrings are the only complete examples which we have listed over the last 10 years – very rare keyrings .

This keyring is in very good condition with a vitreous enamel badge mounted onto a keyfob in black vinyl .

There are defects in the nickel plating on the badge which can be seen in the enlarged high resolution listing photos – these are not noticeable when seen with the naked eye at lifesize – it was only when reviewing the enlarged photos that we noticed them them !

Vinyl was commonly used for keyfobs at the time – it was seen as a ‘cool’ new material and much more interesting than ‘boring’ old leather .

Additionally it is waterproof and was considered more relevant for use in an open topped car – goodness knows what the rest of the car interior would have been like if even the keyring got wet !

The back of the badge is marked ‘POLCO Made in England’.

‘POLCO’ stood for ‘Pool Clock Company’ who were located in Aldersgate Street in London EC1 and only produced keyrings for a short time so far as we know – always with this distinctive shield shaped keyfob badge .

We do occasionally see other keyrings for other makes of car made by POLCO.

The keyring will date from the late 1950s or very early 1960s and will be one of the very first keyrings ever produced for use with Austin Healey cars.

It is original & correct for use with 1956-1959 Austin Healey 100/6 and also early 3000 Mk I & 1958-1961 Austin Healey ‘frogeye’ Sprite.

Additionally it would be correct for 1953 – 1956 Austin Healey 100 as owners of these cars would have bought a keyring such as this one to use with their car as soon as keyrings became generally available in the late 1950s.
