NOW SOLD – sorry these keyring have now been sold and can no longer be ordered
We do not have a licence to produce the BMW roundel logo .
The badges mounted onto these pigskin keyfobs date from the 1960s and are original vintage items- they were not made by us !
Over the years we have learned that not all of our customers are looking for pristine keyrings with a ‘brand new ‘ appearance !
Time & again customers order a keyring and then ask for it to be distressed or made to look old …………………………
No need to make such a request if you buy one of these keyrings !
The badges mounted onto these keyrings turned up recently and will date from the 1960s.
We have just 2 to offer.
The badges are in vitreous enamel on gilt and really look their age.
These old gilt badges usually mellow to an aged appearance over the years as these have done – this is something which only the passage of time will achieve.
It would be impossible to replicate this appearance by artificial means.
The vitreous enamelling in the badges is in excellent condition but was hand laid enamel with slight flecking and surface matting.
Aged badges like these could look rather odd mounted onto brand new leather keyfobs – so we have mounted them onto keyfobs using vintage dark tan genuine pigskin from a hide salvaged from an old saddlery business which closed down years ago. This pigskin was already old when the saddlery closed and is probably a similar age to the badges themselves.
Pigskin like this is almost a thing of the past and now very difficult to source.
It was used all those years ago for keyrings for prestige cars such as Aston Martin & Jaguar and also for covering hip flasks and making gentleman’s wallets and coin purses.
The only pigskin available today seems to be nappa or suede which is unsuitable for keyfobs.
If your idea of a keyring is mint perfection – then these keyrings are certainly not for you !
However if you have a period BMW motor car which has not been treated to the full indignities of over-restoration then one of these could really look the part and the appearance of that vintage pigskin can only improve with use.
These keyrings showcase what we are probably best at – remounting original 20th Century keyfob badges so that they can continue to be used long into the 21st Century.
When both keyrings have been sold then this listing will be cancelled. 00/55 06/20
