We have just this one example of this very rare Bugatti torpedo keyring made by CUD to offer .
This is only the 2nd example which we have ever listed over the last 10 years.
It was a similar keyring to this one ( but not in this mint condition ) which was used as the basis of our own reproduction Bugatti torpedo keyring which is listed here in this Bugatti section of our website shop.
This keyring is new old stock – so is in mint condition – and will have been in store for the last 50 years.
Made by Castles Unit Developments Ltd of Castle Gate, Leicester – their CUD name was changed to Craftsman in the late 1960s – and an American connection has been rumoured but never substantiated.
The fact that the back of the badge on this keyring is marked ‘Craftsman’ indicates that this particular keyring was produced in the late 1960s.
CUD were the only manufacturers of torpedo keyrings and were famous in the late 1950s and right through the late 1960s for the quality of their products which were exported worldwide.
At that time keyrings for the world’s motor cars were made in England – it was quite an industry.
The vitreous enamel badge is mounted onto a torpedo keyfob in genuine hide embossed ‘REAL MOROCCO – Made in England’.
Morocco leather was a term for goatskin – and the pebbly grain of the leather shows that this torpedo keyfob is in genuine goatskin.
When this keyring has been sold this listing will cancel.
