NOW SOLD – but this keyring has been left on view as an example of a De Tomaso keyring
This is only the second example of a De Tomaso keyfob badge which we have ever seen and it came to us with other original keyrings which are more familiar to us.
The vitreous enamel badge is in excellent condition apart from 3 slight enamel cracks in the white enamel which can be seen in the enlarged high resolution listing photos but are not immediately obvious when viewed at life size.
We are offering the badge remounted onto a new leather keyfob in full grain black leather as can be seen in the photos.
There is no maker’s mark on the back of the badge so we are unable to comment on the maker but the style of the badge does not look typically British.
It is unusual for us to list a keyring with a badge which we cannot attribute to a maker or even a country of origin – but De Tomaso itself is a very rare marque and original keyrings seem even rarer than the cars themselves.
There are plenty of modern keyrings for the marque which will have been produced recently in The Far East available on ebay and similar internet sites.
We have seen some reproduction De Tomaso keyrings being advertised from USA described as ‘vintage’ with badges which appear to be very similar to the remounted badge which we are listing here although we have not seen an example in the flesh .
It may be that these have been available for some time and the badge which we have here is an early example of one of these reproduction keyring badges which has actually had some use.
Or it could be that the reproductions are faithful reproductions of original badges and the one that we have here is actually an original which those reproductions are based on- but we do not think that is the case.
As there is some doubt we will have to assume that the badge on this keyring is a reproduction badge and the keyring is priced accordingly.
The keyring in the photos is the actual one which you will receive – when it has been sold this listing will be cancelled. 59/93 08/20
