A rare original Jaguar keyfob badge dating from the 1950s which we have remounted onto a new torpedo keyfob in full grain black leather as can be seen in the photos.
This badge is in superb condition ( most that we have seen have considerable wear ) with bright nickel plating and ‘JAGUAR’ within a small black vitreous enamel panel.
The plating on the Jaguar’s snout has just rubbed through to the underlying copper base metal – not bad for a 60 year old badge !
The maker’s details are on the back of the badge :- R.SCULTHORP & Co. Ltd, Blackfriars House, London EC4- a well known London badgemaker in the 1950s.
Sculthorps were making keyrings from the 1950s into the mid 1960s.
The badge is original & correct for use with mid to late 1950s or early 1960s Jaguar motor cars including late XK140 and all years of XK150.
Also Jaguar Mk VIII & IX and Mk I & Mk 2 2.4 & 3.4 litre saloons togther with Mk 2 3.8 litre saloon.
Examples of original keyrings with this badge are described in Bud Marston’s Vintage Jaguar Keyrings book which is featured at the beginning of our Jaguar section in this website shop.
Bud considers that this particular badge is one of the most elegant which was ever designed for use on Jaguar keyrings and goes on to say that one experienced collector likened keyrings with this badge to be the very first official keyrings produced for Jaguar Cars.
The leather keyfobs which 60 year old badges were originally mounted onto have rarely stood the test of time as well as the badges themselves.
We have become very well known over the years for remounting original keyfob badges onto new leather keyfobs of the correct pattern – this badge can now go back into service for another 60 years safely mounted onto it’s new leather torpedo keyfob.
As the badge is an original item it has not been been necessary to stamp the back of the leather fob with our brand- which we always do in the case of a reproduction Jaguar badge to avoid confusion with an original keyring .
This is an original badge which has been remounted onto a new leather key fob which is regarded as an acceptable repair.
These original Jaguar keyfob badges are now commanding extraordinarily high prices when they ( very rarely) come up for sale.
Our price for this keyring reflects the price which we have had to pay for the badge in order to put this keyring into stock.
The keyring in the photos is the actual one which you will receive.
When it has been sold then this listing will be cancelled .
