NOW SOLD – sorry this keyring has now been sold and can no longer be ordered
We are not licensed by Jaguar Land Rover Ltd to reproduce any of the recent Jaguar logos and none of the keyrings listed here for sale in this website shop feature any of those logos.
The keyring in this listing is an original vintage item which we date as having been produced in the 1980s.
This is the only the 2nd new old stock example of this keyring which we have ever seen.
This is an original new old stock item which was made by Manhattan Windsor Co. of Birmingham most probably in the 1980s. Manhattan Windsor’s details are cast into the back of the badge.
The nickel plated vitreous enamel badge is in the most beautiful translucent green enamel – why can’t manufacturers supply keyrings like this with new vehicles anymore ?
The badge is mounted onto a genuine leather keyfob in Manhattan Windsor’s trademark full grain black leather.
The exact period of the green leaper badge can be rather a mystery – so we did consult with our resident expert Bud Marston in Virginia USA on this point some time back.
Bud is an authority on all things Jaguar and is the author of the book ‘Vintage Jaguar Keyrings 1955 -1980 ‘ which is featured at the beginning of our Jaguar section here in this website.
Bud declared that the Jaguar Leaper mascot is timeless and is appropriate for use with the entire range of Jaguars from the end of 1938 ( when the mascot was introduced ) right through to the present time- which didn’t exactly answer our question !
Bud continued to say that the Jaguar Leaper is the most recognised symbol of Jaguar worldwide.
We suspect that this keyring is slightly beyond the 1955-1980 date which Bud’s book covers although in his book Bud does show just one similar keyring which the owner dated as 1970s and Bud had stated that date could be a decade too early !
So that agrees with our date of 1980s .
Please note that we have seen a few examples of these keyrings in well used condition which we would value at a fraction of the listed price of this one.
As with almost all vintage items it is condition which determines value – and this keyring is in mint condition.
The keyring in the photos is the actual one which you will receive.
When it has been sold this listing will be cancelled – try to find another in this condition ! 00/561 05/20
