Jaguar – original vintage 1960s Avon Cliff standing wings keyring in tan pigskin leather – collector’s item

NOW SOLD – sorry this keyring has now been sold and can no longer be ordered

An original Jaguar keyring which will have been produced in the 1960s.

When this keyring has been sold this listing will be cancelled.

One of two original vintage Jaguar Avon Cliff standing wings  keyrings which came to us recently- both currently listed ( unless the other one has now been sold )

Both of these were made by Avon Cliff badgemakers in the 1960s .

The two keyrings have different coloured leathers and stitching colours- this particular one has a genuine pigskin leather keyfob which is most ‘upmarket’ and sets it apart from most original vintage Jaguar keyrings which we have ever listed.

Pigskin leather was occasionally used for ‘special’ keyrings – more so for Aston Martin and ( very occasionally ) Jaguar keyrings than for any other brand.

Pigskin leather was prized for it’s appearance and also for it’s durability and was often used for small items which received a lot of handling like gentleman’s wallets & notecases .

It is unbelievable how much trouble Avon Cliff put into making these keyrings which must have been individually hand selected and stitched to achieve such variation.

Many of the original Avon Cliff keyrings which we have seen over the years have different leather and stitching colours – even to the degree of having different coloured leather on the front & back of the keyfob !

Nowadays this level of attention is termed ‘bespoke’ – here we see an example of this taking place over 50 years ago !

The keyring in this listing is in excellent condition.

Whilst original Avon Cliff keyrings are very distinctive and easily recognisable their name was not always cast into the back of the keyfob badge – ‘Avon Cliff’ is clearly cast into the back of the badge on this keyring.

The vitreous enamel badge has some slight dark stains in the solid white enamel which will have been there since the badge was fired – very common in early light coloured enamel which was hand laid and will not affect the durability of the badge in the slightest.

This can be seen in the enlarged high resolution listing photos.

The keyfob is in light tan pigskin leather with green stitching – very up-market for the rather austere 1960s !

Condition of the pigskin leather keyfob is mint – which suggests that despite the enamel stains the keyring is actually new old stock having never been used.

Some examples of Jaguar keyrings like this one are described and photographed in Bud Marston’s ‘Vintage Jaguar keyrings ‘ book featured at the beginning of our Jaguar section here in this website shop.

Bud explains that the standing wings & tail motif that appeared on SS Cars & Jaguar Cars from 1936 onwards almost certainly inspired the design shown on the badge on this keyring.

This keyring is an exceptional example of an original vintage Jaguar keyring and the one in the photos is the actual one which you will receive. SMOSO  00/595    10/21
