We are not licensed by Jaguar Land Rover Ltd to reproduce any of the recent Jaguar logos and none of the keyrings listed here for sale in this website shop feature any of those logos.
The keyring in this listing is an historic original vintage Jaguar keyring which was manufactured over 50 years ago.
An original Jaguar keyring dating from the early 1960s which has the same rare badge as the ones which we offer remounted in a separate listing here in this website shop – but possibly not made by Manhattan as those badges are.
This is the only example of an original keyring with this badge not marked on the reverse as having been made by Manhattan which we have ever seen and has been in our possession for some time.
The keyring is in very good condition and could well be new old stock.
The vitreous enamel on nickel plate badge is in excellent condition but has not been made to the standard which we associate with Manhattan produced badges from the time.
It is simply marked ‘Made in England’ on the reverse.
The quality of plating and the enamelling is of a more ‘budget’ standard than those made by Manhattan.
The badge is mounted onto a keyfob in thin genuine full grain black leather which has been gold embossed ‘REAL LEATHER – MADE IN ENGLAND’ but the emboss has not taken well as often happened in those days.
The edge of the leather keyfob is straight cut and un-burnished.
This keyring may have been made by Manhattan just before they started to mark the reverse of their badges with their own name- in which case it will be the very earliest keyring which we can ever attribute to Manhattan- it is known that they came about in the very early 1960s.
They then went on to become the famous Manhattan Windsor Co. of Birmingham who made a wealth of keyrings for Jaguar and other marques right up until recent times before sadly closing for business.
The badge on this keyring features the iconic Jaguar ‘Growler’ mask with red enamel eyes and mouth upon the black & white chequerboard ground.
This chequerboard design carried forward to represent the Jaguar E-Type but this keyring will have been produced just before the E-type was launched.
Jaguar authorities are of the opinion that this badge was produced in the time slot between Jaguar XK150 & Jaguar E-Type
Whether made by Manhattan or not ( and we shall never know with any certainty ) this is one of the rarest Jaguar keyrings ever produced.
We have only ever seen this one example and despite us having described it as not having been made to the standard which Manhattan later achieved it is a most important and rare example of an original Jaguar keyring from the very early 1960s – or possibly from the very late 195os.
The keyring in the photos is the actual one which you will receive.
When it has been sold this listing will be cancelled.
