NOW SOLD – Sorry this keyring has now been sold and can no longer be ordered
This original Jaguar keyring dates from the early 1960s and has been held in our reference collection for several years.
We have sold a couple of similar examples before – both on vinyl keyfobs but never in red vinyl like this one.
The vitreous enamel badge is in good condition for it’s age with very slight enamel chipping around the edge – almost imperceptible at life size but can be seen in the enlarged photos. Slight damage to the surface of the vitreous enamel is almost inevitable in a badge of this age on a keyring which has had some use.
The badge is mounted onto a red vinyl keyfob. Vinyl was often used for keyrings at that time when plastics were not just regarded as leather alternatives. Vinyl was considered to be quite ‘cool’ at that time and was fashionable.
As often seems the case with vinyl keyrings – the vinyl hinge holding the badge onto the keyfob is of a different texture & darker colour than the main body.
We have noticed this with other examples and do not know the reason why !
Bud Marston in Virginia USA ( who has written a book on the subject of Vintage Jaguar Keyrings ) also reports having seen this. Bud carries on to say that he has seen a few examples of these keyrings but never on a red vinyl keyfob.
The vinyl keyfob is in good condition ( some surface staining under the badge ) but the vinyl hinge holding the badge has a split – so some care should be exercised if it is intended that the keyring be used………Sunday afternoons only !
This can be seen in the enlarged photos and the price of the keyring takes this split into account.
The photos are of the actual keyring described above.
