Jaguar XJ6 & XJ12 original vintage new old stock 1970s keyring with unusual shaded black enamel badge- one-off collector's item

NOW SOLD – Sorry this keyring has now been sold and can no longer be ordered

We are not licensed by Jaguar Land Rover Ltd to reproduce any of the recent Jaguar logos and none of the keyrings listed here for sale in this website shop feature any of those logos.

The keyring in this listing is an historic original vintage Jaguar keyring which was  manufactured over 40 years ago and this keyring is intended to be used with classic Jaguar XJ6 & XJ12 motor cars.

This listing is for the only original black vitreous enamel badged XJ6/XJ12 keyring which we have ever seen with black enamel shading within the recessed growler badge.

This has the result of very effectively highlighting the detail of the 3D badge and could be the only keyring like this in existence.

Maybe this innovative treatment of the traditional vitreous enamel badge was considered to be a step too far at the time by the very conservative bodies which presided over these things in those days ?

Condition of this keyring is brand new ( new old stock )

Please note that this is a completely original keyring with the badge mounted onto the original leather keyfob – not a remounted badge as is the case with our similar black enamel badged XJ6/XJ12 keyrings.

The vitreous enamel badge is mounted onto the original genuine leather keyfob in thick tan hide.

These keyrings were made in the 1970s and it is known that some were issued with the Jaguar XJ6 in the mid 1970s.

Mr.Roland Warting from Sweden has made contact to say that keyfobs with these enamel badges were listed in the Jaguar parts list for use with the Series II XJ6 ( 1974-79) The part no. was BD 38585.

Mr.Clifford Schulz from New York USA confirms the above but reports that it was also used as a general Jaguar keyfob at the time in USA – and was not just available from Jaguar themselves.

We are most grateful to these two authorities for the above information and also to Mr. Bud Marston from USA who has advised on many of our Jaguar keyrings- and advises that this keyfob badge was also used with the Jaguar XJ12.

In his book ‘Vintage Jaguar Keyrings’ which was published in autumn 2018 , Bud describes this badge as the ‘XJ Recessed Growler’ on account of how the growler depiction is recessed into the surface of the badge.

In his book, Bud refers to the badge in black, green, grey & red enamels .

One of Bud’s grey badges in the book was kindly obtained from us and is shown mounted onto one of our slimline teardrop keyfobs.

The iconic Jaguar ‘Growler’ mask is recessed into the enamel badge with enamel shading and surrounded by a border of solid black vitreous enamel.

The enamel is as fresh and vibrant as the day it was fired almost 40 years ago.

The badge has ‘Manhattan Birmingham’ marked on the back- the famous Manhattan badgemakers who made so many classic Jaguar keyrings at the time.

This keyring is original & correct for 1970s Jaguar XJ6 & XJ12.

The keyring in the photos is the actual one which you will receive and is an opportunity to add what may be one of the rarest Jaguar keyrings of all time to your collection – when it has been sold this listing will be cancelled. 00/522  ( 00/171   10/19)
