We are not licensed by Jaguar Land Rover Ltd to reproduce any of the recent Jaguar logos and none of the keyrings listed here for sale in this website shop feature any of those logos.
The keyring in this listing features an historic original vintage Jaguar keyring which was manufactured over 50 years ago and this keyring is intended to be used with classic Jaguar XK140 motor cars.
Sorry – this keyring has now been sold and can no longer be ordered.
This is the only original Jaguar XK140 keyring which we have ever see- it is a very rare item.
Condition of the keyring is virtually mint – we would think that this keyring has never been used.
The vitreous enamel badge is a lovely example of the enameller’s art with translucent red and gold enamel on a nickel base.
The badge is mounted onto a genuine leather keyfob of generous thickness – as with any genuine leather keyfob of this thickness there are a few wrinkles in the leather on the back of the keyfob. 00/575
Made by Manhattan Windsor of Birmingham in the early 1960s – their details are cast into the back of the badge.
We have had a small number of these loose XK140 badges which we have offered for sale mounted onto our new leather keyrings – but never a completely original keyring like this one.
These keyrings are described in Bud Marston’s recently published book ‘Vintage Jaguar Keyrings’ and Bud dates them to the early 1960s – a few years after the cars themselves were produced.
Manhattan Windsor obviously saw a sales opportunity at a time when many XK140s were still on the roads as regular drivers – long before they achieved the classic status which they now enjoy today.
A dedicated keyring specifically for XK140 had not been produced at the time when the car was in production.
Bud carries on to say that very few original examples of this keyring have surfaced in recent years – those that have are all in unused condition as this one appears to be in. It maybe that only a very few ‘samples’ were produced which never got as far as being issued.
The few loose badges which we had were received in a brown cardboard box which had been in Manhattan Windsor’s store since the early 1960s and for some reason had never been fitted to leather keyfobs at the time.
Manhattan Windsor’s badge was based on the grille badge fitted to the XK140.
This original keyring is correct for use with 1954 – 1957 Jaguar XK140.
The keyring in the photos is the actual one which you will receive.
When it has been sold this listing will be cancelled.
We never expect to offer another of these keyrings and the price we are asking simply reflects what we had to pay for the keyring in order to be in a position to offer it for sale here.
This keyring is much rarer than the sought after 1960s CUD torpedo Jaguar keyrings which routinely change hands for around the £1,000 mark provided they are in good condition . 00/575
