Land Rover – original 1960s enamel on gilt Rover keychain badge inlaid into a new leather keyfob

An original Rover keychain badge which will have been produced in the 1960s which we have inlaid into a new leather keyfob as can be seen in the photos .

We have just this one keyring with this badge to offer – when it has been sold this listing will be cancelled .

Owners of early Series Land Rovers do not have a lot of choice of original keyrings to use with their vehicles.

Very few keyrings were produced at the time possibly because Land Rovers were regarded as working vehicles and manufacturers assumed that the owners would not be interested in such embellishments .

In that case the vehicles were often used with Rover keyrings rather than keyrings actually stating ‘ Land Rover’ .

Accordingly we have produced just this one keyring which might just ‘ fit the bill ‘ .

The badge is an original 1960s Rover keychain badge showing the prow of the Viking ship with shields arranged along the top strake of the hull – variations of this Rover logo graced the bonnets of Rover cars in the 1950s and 1960s .

The gilt plated badge is in excellent condition and is enamelled in coach enamel ( not the usual vitreous enamel ) which was hand applied .

The gilt plating has mellowed over the years to give an attractive ‘ old gold’ appearance .

The splitring is in an old gold finish to match the badge .

We have inlaid the badge into a teardrop keyfob in hand stitched London tan saddlery hide.

This is only the 2nd one of these Rover keychain badges which we have ever seen .

In which case this keyring is not the one-off which you might imagine it to be ……………………..the other badge which came to us some years ago was similarly mounted and we use it with our own classic Land Rover Defender – see it in the final photo in an aubergine leather which closely matches the aged colour of the seats in the vehicle !

The keyring in the photos is the actual one which you will receive – you are unlikely to find a more ‘bespoke’ keyring to use with your Land Rover ! SMOSO  00/59   11/24
