Land Rover – original late 1950s/ early 1960s vitreous enamel CUD badge remounted onto a new leather keyfob – collector’s item

NOW SOLD – sorry this keyring has now been sold and can no longer be ordered

An original vitreous enamel Land Rover CUD keyfob badge which will have been produced in the late 1950s or very early 1960s which we have remounted onto a new leather keyfob .

We have just this one keyring with this badge to offer – when it has been sold this listing will be cancelled.

We would not usually describe a keyfob badge which is no longer on it’s original leather keyfob as a collector’s item .

However this is such a significant keyfob badge that we have made an exception on this occasion .

This is possibly the earliest Land Rover keyfob badge which was ever produced and we have never listed one before – probably because almost all of those ever made were used in what were classed as working vehicles and have long since been worn out, lost or simply discarded.

The badge was produced in the late 1950s or very early 1960s by the very well known CUD Co. of Leicester ( Castles Unit Development Co. )  who made the famous torpedo keyrings which rose to such high values when associated with prestige cars such as Jaguar & Aston Martin .

This nickel plated vitreous enamel  badge is in very good condition for it’s age with just a couple of small enamel chips which can be seen in the enlarged high resolution photos but are not particularly noticeable when viewed at life size.

Very few original Land Rover keyfob badges can be confidently described as being original & correct for use in a 1948-1957 Land Rover Series I …………..this badge qualifies – as it also does for use with 1958 onwards Series II .

Key chains ( not keyrings ) with similar badges but in a lighter lemon yellow ( this badge is in egg-yolk yellow ) were produced by Melsom Products Ltd in the mid 1960s .

These were similar small oval badges with an eye fitted for attachment of a light chain – not a loop like this badge has for attaching to a leather keyfob with a little leather hinge .

We have listed and sold a number of these Melsom keychains over the years .

A very rare item now safely remounted onto a keyfob in specially selected ‘ vintage’ black leather for continued use in an early Land Rover .

The keyring in the photos is the actual one which you will receive . SMOSO  00/541  ( 00/611 )  10/24
