Mercedes Benz – original vintage 1950s? leather Continental Reims dealership keychain

An original Mercedes Benz keychain which we would date as having been produced in the mid to late 1950s .

We have just this one example of this keychain to offer – when it has been sold this listing will be cancelled .

This keychain is in exceptionally good condition and it is doubtful if it will ever have been used .

Keychains were produced for a short period from the mid 1950s and were the first car ‘keyrings’ before leather keyrings came into general use .

The main body of the keychain is in genuine blue leather of a fine grade with the Mercedes Benz star gold embossed onto the front face .

The reverse is embossed ‘ CONTINENTAL REIMS ‘ with a telephone no.

The leather body is connected to the gilt plated clasp by a short gilt plated chain – the clasp opens and closes as it should with precision to allow the car key(s) to be attached .

We cannot find any reference to there being a Mercedes Benz dealership of this name in Reims but would assume that this is what ‘CONTINENTAL REIMS ‘ refers to .

There is of course a very well known hotel of that name in Reims – but it is unlikely that the hotel issued Mercedes Benz keychains – unless what we interpret as the Mercedes Benz star meant something different to them .

It can be difficult to positively identify an almost 7o year old ‘one-off’ item like this one where other examples are unlikely to have survived but we have seen many similar items over the years and are reasonably sure that our description will be correct .
