Mercedes Benz – original vintage 1970s keyring by Heath Machin in tan leather – collector’s item

An original Mercedes Benz keyring which we would think will have been produced in the very late 1960s or 1970s .

We have just this one example of this keyring to offer – when it has been sold this listing will be cancelled.

This is only the 2nd or 3rd original Heath Machin Mercedes Benz keyring which we have ever listed although we have seen similar keyrings made by them for other prestige marques like Porsche & Jaguar .

Heath Machin used a couple of distinctive keyfob shapes for their keyfobs – a flat topped shield shape and also this most attractive plump teardrop shape …………..halfway between a Melsom Products slimline teardrop and a full standard teardrop ( excluding the flat sided peardrop shape used later by others )

The keyring is in excellent condition with a vitreous enamel badge mounted onto a keyfob in genuine tan leather with natural coloured stitching.

The badge is in superb condition and is a lovely example of the typical Mercedes Benz keyfob badge which was used in the 1970s before the badge received open sections which were milled out of the badge in the 1980s .

Heath Machin did make their own keyfob badges and this one looks to be one of those .

The genuine leather keyfob is in excellent condition – marks soon appear on tan leather if it has received much use and the only significant mark on this keyfob is where the badge has laid on the leather which can be seen in the enlarged high resolution listing photos – probably hardly worth mentioning as almost all leather keyrings with badges will show a degree of this which even takes place in storage .

The keyring was made by Heath Machin of Walsall in England who as well as making their own car keyrings like this one , were producers of small leather goods and other keyrings and carried out leatherwork for other keyring manufacturers like Melsom Products Ltd of Birmingham & Premier of London at the time.

In the 1960s & 1970s almost all keyrings for the world’s cars were made in England – it was quite an industry .

The keyring in the photos is the actual one which you will receive and is a superb keyring to use with any 1970s Mercedes Benz motor car .
