NOW SOLD – sorry this keychain has now been sold and can no longer be ordered
An original vintage Mercedes Benz keychain which we would date as having been produced in the late 1950s or very early 1960s.
This keychain was produced just before leather car keyrings as we know them today started to appear in any numbers.
At that time a keyring often comprised a badge suspended on a short chain with a clasp as is the case with this keychain.
The badge ( measuring 34mm wide at it’s widest point ) is in acrylic over a granulated ground which glitters with a spectrum of colours as you move the keyring from side to side.
Quite an item for those relatively austere times -particularly with the acrylic badge which is one of the earliest examples which we have ever seen.
The badge surround is in genuine black leather which is painstakingly inlaid into the badge surround.
The badge is then suspended on a plated chain which in turn has the key clasp attached .
The car keys are then attached to the clasp by opening the clasp by means of pushing the knurled hand wheel back in the direction of the chain and then closing it again .
This has a tight interference fit which is sufficient to ensure that the keys are safely retained.
The keychain is in excellent condition and is only the 2nd one which we have ever seen.
The keychain in the photos is the actual one which you will receive.
When it has been sold this listing will be cancelled. 00/57 12/20
