Original Vintage & Restored Leather Keyrings for Classic Cars & Motorcycles

MG ( MGA ) - original new old stock late 1950s/early 1960s keyring with black leather keyfob - keyring A

NOW SOLD – sorry this keyring has now been sold and can no longer be ordered

An original vintage MG keyring which will have been produced in the late 1950s or early 1960s.

We are listing 2 very similar MG keyrings – the keyring in this listing is keyring no. A

We are also currently listing keyring no. B in a separate listing ( unless now sold )

Keyring no. A is the actual one which you will receive from ordering from this listing .

There is a small area of dark staining beneath the translucent red enamel as can be seen in the photos .

Additionally there is a small area at the base of the badge which has not infilled with black enamel .

Both of these flaws will probably have been there since the enamel was fired ( not unusual for vitreous enamel badges of this age ) and is probably the reason that the keyring was never issued at the time as customers at the time  – as many do now – expect perfection .

Attitudes towards imperfections and ‘patina’ have changed dramatically over the last few years – many customers now accept this and even look for it .

You are most unlikely to ever have the opportunity to buy a more original 60-odd year old keyring for an MG motor car than either of these keyrings !

When these turned up our hearts missed a beat – and all we see day-in & day-out are keyrings & vintage keyrings…………………

These are original vintage ‘time warp’  ( that ridiculous term again ) keyrings just as would have been used with the cars at the time.

We have just these 2 examples to offer both of which are new old stock which have never been issued.

The vitreous enamel on gilt badges have hand-laid vitreous enamel and would have originally been treated with a whiff of lacquer to keep the gilt plating bright – we have reapplied this.

The surface of the enamel is generally uneven – these are individually hand-laid enamel badges which were seldom perfect in those days- this is all part of the charm of original keyrings like these which really look their age and can never be confused with modern reproductions – these are ‘time warp’ items which are just as they were made around 60 years ago.

The back of the badges are in a blackened gilt finish ( which would no doubt polish up but we prefer to leave them be )

These keyrings had hand laid vitreous enamel and were hand assembled and small details like this did happen – all part of the charm of genuine vintage keyrings !

The badges are mounted onto genuine black leather keyfobs gold embossed ‘TOP GRAIN LEATHER’.

The back of the badges are simply marked ‘British Made’- how often to you see that statement nowadays ?

These keyrings will be date correct for 1955-1962 MGA, 1953-1958 Magnette ZA & ZB, very early 1961-on MG Midget and very early 1962-on MGB.    SMOSO  00/57   03/23
