NOW SOLD – sorry these keyrings have now been sold and can no longer be ordered
You are most unlikely to ever have the opportunity to buy a more original 60-odd year old keyring for an MG motor car than these keyrings !
When these turned up my heart missed a beat – and all we seen day-in & day-out are keyrings & vintage keyrings.
Despite not having perfectly produced modern resin enamel badges these are original keyrings just as would have been used with the cars at the time.
We have just 4 examples to offer all of which are new old stock which have never been issued.
The vitreous enamel on gilt badges have hand-laid vitreous enamel which does have some dark staining beneath the enamel which has been there since the badges were made.
These badges would have originally been treated with a whiff of lacquer to keep the gilt plating bright – we have reapplied this.
Odd areas on the enamel may be dull and the surface of the enamel is generally uneven – these are individually hand-laid enamel badges which were seldom perfect in those days – this is all part of the charm of original keyrings like these which really look their age and can never be confused with modern reproductions – these are ‘time warp’ items which are just as they were made around 60 years ago.
The back of the badges is in blackened gilt finish ( which would no doubt polish up but we prefer to leave them be )
The badges are mounted onto genuine burgundy leather keyfobs gold embossed ‘TOP GRAIN LEATHER’.
The grade of leather used, keyfob shape and style of embossing are exactly as Manhattan Windsor of Birmingham used some years later on their extensive and famous ranges of automotive keyrings.
The later products had ‘Manhattan Windsor’ on the back of the badges – whereas these are simply marked ‘British Made’.
These keyrings came to us recently in a final batch from the original Manhattan Windsor premises in Birmingham together with later keyrings marked Manhattan Windsor as we would expect.
Manhattan Windsor are now sadly closed and almost certainly these are some of the earliest keyrings ever made by Manhattan Windsor probably before they had registered their name.
These keyrings are date correct for 1955-1962 MGA, 1953-1958 Magnette ZA & ZB, very early 1961-on MG Midget and very early 1962-on MGB.
When all 4 examples have been sold this listing will be cancelled .
We are also listing 6 examples of these keyrings in black leather in a separate listing here in our MG section ( unless now sold ) 59/44 08/20
