MGB - original vintage late 1960s Trend keyring - collector's item

NOW SOLD – sorry this keyring has now been sold and can no longer be ordered

An important example of an original MGB keyring- and we have just this one to offer which is the only the 2nd one which we have ever seen of this type in the last 10 years.

Trend keyrings ( as their name implies) were obviously innovators and keen to ‘up-date’ the keyring.

In that respect this vitreous enamel keyring badge is set into a black plastic mount as can be seen in the photos. We have only ever seen two other examples of this mount ( both made by Trend) but for other marques .

We would hasten to add that the black plastic mount is in perfect condition and may be rather better plastic than we are used to seeing nowadays !

Keyrings specifically for MGB just do not seem to have been made at the time ( with the obvious exception of this one ) – owners having to simply buy a keyring for MG.

The keyring is in excellent condition ( probably new old stock ) and has been in dry storage for well over 40 years since the late 1960s – or possibly early 1970s.

The vitreous enamel badge in it’s plastic mount is mounted onto an excellent quality keyfob in high grade full grain leather with gold embossing.

Made by a manufacturing business whose trademark was ‘Trend’ as can be seen embossed onto the back of the keyfob- we do see examples of their keyrings for other makes of car from time to time.

Despite comprehensive research we have never discovered who they actually were !

Small enamelling businesses came & went rather rapidly in the 1960s & 1970s – many were based in the Birmingham area which had a tradition of vitreous enamelling.

There may have been a tie-up with a badgemaker known as ‘Alexander’ – occasionally a badge marked ‘Alexander’ crops up mounted onto a ‘Trend’ leather keyfob.

In our opinion this is an important example of an original MGB keyring and should be bought by someone with a special interest in the MGB.

The keyring is original & correct for any 1960s or 1970s MGB motor car.

The keyring in the photos is the actual one which you will receive.

When it has been sold this listing will cancel.  59/95           11/20
