Porsche – original 1970s ? vitreous enamel on gilt badge remounted onto a new leather keyfob

An original Porsche keyfob badge which we would think will have been produced in the early 1970s which we have remounted onto a new leather keyfob as can be seen in the photos .

When this keyring with this badge has been sold this listing will be cancelled .

An original vitreous enamel on gilt Porsche keyfob badge which we would think will have been produced in Birmingham in the early 1970s – but could be earlier as most gilt keyfob badges were produced in the 1960s.

By the 1970s almost all keyfob badges were being produced in either nickel or chrome plating.

The badge is in superb condition – the vitreous enamelling is faultless with the solid red enamel in the lower left hand corner of the badge actually having been applied & fired proud of the general level of the badge which proves that the enamel was hand laid and possibly earlier than our date estimate .

The gilt plating would originally have been bright but as always happens with this old gilt plating – the finish has mellowed over the years to provide a most attractive soft bronzed finish which would be impossible to replicate by artificial means – this really gives an impression of age .

In keeping with the badge finish we have fitted a bronze plated splitring to the keyfob as can be seen .

‘MADE IN ENGLAND’ on the back of the badge – at that time almost all car keyrings and keyfob badges were made in England – it was quite an industry.

Porsche did not have it’s own keyrings made until later .

This design of Porsche keyfob badge was still being produced in England until the early 2000s – but by then always chrome plated.

The badge design is quite distinctive as the top of the badge has a couple of little ‘ears’ protruding up above the rounded top of the badge.

We have remounted the badge onto a new keyfob in full grain black leather .
