NOW SOLD – sorry this keyring has now been sold and can no longer be ordered
An original Porsche keychain which we would date as having been made in the early to mid 1960s.
This is the only example which we have ever seen of this Porsche keychain but have seen very similar keychains for other makes of car which were easily dated as having been produced in the early to mid 1960s due to the particular models of car represented by the badges on those keychains .
Most of those could be attributed to having been made in USA – so we would assume that this one is also USA made.
The keychain is in very good condition with an acrylic domed badge set into a genuine leather mount.
The leather mount is of generous thickness and has a groove embossed around the edge .
This was a feature of much American leatherwork at that time – this groove was applied with a hot embossing iron and was originally intended for setting any stitching below the general level of the leather in order to protect the stitching from abrasion – probably a left-over legacy from saddle making days .
In this case it has been applied for purely decorative reasons – as a neat way of defining the edge of the leather mount .
Curiously this embossed stitching groove was never applied to English leatherwork so far as we are aware.
The leather mount is attached to the splitring by means of relatively heavy chain links and a swivel.
These are all nickel plated .
The splitring itself is of the old ‘diamond cut’ chamfer edged design .
It has been slightly over-stretched at some point of time meaning that it is not closing together completely.
Still perfectly serviceable and we have left it in place as it is original to the rest of the keychain.
Will happily replace it with another similar diamond cut splitring of the same vintage but in perfect condition if you prefer at no extra charge.
This keychain will be original & correct for use with one of the last produced Porsche 356 or any 1960s Porsche 911 or 912 – USA was of course a very major market place for all of these cars at the time .
The keychain in the photos is the actual one which you will receive.
When it has been sold this listing will be cancelled. 00/552 01/21
