Porsche -original vintage 1990s vitreous enamel crest grey leather shield keyring

These original Porsche crest keyrings have now become very sought after particularly if in excellent condition like this one.

This keyring is in excellent condition although it has obviously been used as the gilt plating on the badge has rubbed through to expose the underling nickel plating over the high areas.

This always happens with these badges within a very short time when used – there is just a ‘whiff’ of gilt plating applied and this is a good measure as to whether the keyring has been used or not.

The vitreous enamelling is perfect with no chips whatsoever  ( which is unusual ) and the leather shield keyfob is also in excellent condition.

It is difficult to date these keyrings exactly as they had a long period of issue but we are advised by one of our customers in Germany that examples like these will most likely date from the 1990s – we are very grateful for his input.

The keyfobs were usually in black leather and sometimes in dark grey leather – which is by far the most popular choice – this one is in dark grey leather .

Made in genuine leather – not imitation leather which Porsche now uses for their keyrings.

A characteristic of these Porsche keyfobs was the amount of internal padding which was used to plump the keyfob up. Each one has this ‘padded cushion’ effect.

To our eyes the splitring fitted is rather too large for the keyfob – but this is how they were always supplied- so we leave it as it is.

Unusually we have recently had a couple of these keyrings to offer here in the website shop- prior to that we didn’t have one for many months.

Very occasionally we are able to list one of these keyrings in mint unused condition ( one currently listed unless now sold )

Mint examples are very rare and do command a premium over used examples.

This keyring therefore represents a considerable saving over the cost of a mint condition one – and mint condition will quickly change to the condition of this keyring if used for a month or two ( and we do know that our Porsche customers buy these keyrings to use in their cars rather than to hang in a collector’s cabinet )

Original examples of these keyrings do appear on internet auction sites from time to time but never seem to be offered in particularly good condition ( please do not confuse them with the modern imitation leather replicas with badges stuck onto the fob with araldite which abound on ebay ! )

Even when in poor condition these original Porsche crest keyrings with the hinged badge now routinely sell for around £75 each on internet auction sites – sometimes even more when 2 or 3 keen bidders are involved.

A used one appeared on ebay recently located in Australia priced at well over £300 !

We do not know if it actually sold.

Over the last 3 years the price of classic Porsche motor cars has risen dramatically before finally levelling out – this has been reflected in the demand for original keyrings to accompany those cars . The value of the keyrings has also risen accordingly and we are now having to pay very high prices in order to put good quality original Porsche keyrings like this one into stock. You will notice that this website shop seldom has many to offer !
