An original Porsche keyring which we would think will have been produced in the late 1980s or early 1990s .

Just this one used condition keyring to offer – when it has been sold this listing will be cancelled.

These original Porsche ‘heubach’ hinged crest keyrings are original & correct for use with a wide range of Porsche cars – but finding keyrings in good serviceable condition is becoming a challenge.

This keyring is in burgundy leather and is in used condition – these keyrings were actually supplied to be used rather than to be stored away to become collector’s items in 40 years time !

The keyring is in excellent serviceable condition and would be ideal for using in a car which has not suffered the indignity of over restoration .

The vitreous enamel badge has vitreous enamel in absolutely perfect condition ( quite unusual ) although the thin ‘whiff’ of gilt plating originally applied has long since worn away to reveal the bright nickel plating underneath and also the copper alloy base metal in one or two places.

The shape of the leather keyfob has a very slightly stubbier shield shape than the later ‘heubach’ keyrings – a very small detail but noticeable when you have seen a few of the later keyrings .

These earlier ‘heubach’ keyrings with this stubbier shape do not often appear – presumably because they were produced a few years earlier and have had more time to wear out.

Additionally the later ‘heubach’ keyrings were produced at a time when the cars tended to be receiving more careful use – those keyrings enjoyed the same level of care !

The earlier cars were often daily drivers at a time when owners just had the one car and not a ‘go to work’ car and also a weekend car .

The leather and the stitching are in excellent shape and the leather has attained that most attractive degree of polish and patination which only comes after years of use.

The little leather strap which retains the badge onto the keyfob has some wear as it is the highest point on the front of the keyfob .

Despite the wear it is still well up to the job of retaining the badge onto the keyfob .

An unimportant mark in the leather on the reverse of the keyfob which can just be made out in the enlarged high resolution photos and is probably where the keyring has been laid on a warm surface at some stage .

Interestingly a relatively small splitring is fitted whereas the later keyrings had a splitring which looked rather too big .

There is a world of difference between a carefully used keyring like this one and one which has been roughly used with chipped enamel & damaged leather .

The keyring has the internal ‘plumping’ which all these ‘heubach’ keyrings had.

Many customers do prefer a keyring which has ‘ had a life’ like this one rather than a mint new old stock item .

We very much agree with this preference but of course it is ‘horses for courses ‘- this keyring would look out of place in a newly restored or superb original condition car.

These original ‘heubach’ Porsche crest keyrings with a vitreous enamel badge hinged onto a genuine leather keyfob with a little leather strap have now become very sought after .

The keyrings were usually originally produced with a black or slate grey leather keyfob – this one in burgundy leather is quite unusual .

At the same time another design of Porsche keyfob also well padded and in burgundy leather was in common use and we do often have an example listed for sale .

Please do not confuse these keyrings with the modern Porsche keyrings with the badge bonded ( not hinged ) onto the surface of the keyfob and now produced in a very wide range of colours .

It is difficult to date these keyrings exactly as they had a long period of issue but we are advised by one of our customers in Germany that most probably date from the 1990s – particularly the slate grey ones whilst those in black leather could be earlier – we are grateful for his input.

Keyrings like this one will be original & correct for use with 1980s 911 SCs & Carrera 3.2s , together with early Carrera 964 and also 928, 994, 968 and early Boxster .

Original examples of these keyrings do appear on internet auction sites from time to time and sometimes at exorbitant prices – but rarely in particularly good condition .

Over the last few years the price of classic Porsche motor cars has risen before finally levelling out -this has been reflected in the demand for original keyrings like these to accompany those cars.

The keyring in the photos is the actual one which you will receive.
