We have a small number of these original Melsom Products Ltd vitreous enamel Porsche keyfob badges to offer remounted onto new leather keyfobs as shown in the photos.
The badges are new old stock and had been in storage for over 50 years .
We have had these badges re-enamelled in genuine ‘old school ‘ vitreous enamel just like the originals and then re-plated and polished by our badgemaker .
These are genuine original badges from the time but have been completely refurbished .
The badges were made in the mid to late 1960s by Melsom Products Ltd of Birmingham – Melsoms were very prolific manufacturers of automotive keyrings in the 1960s .
In the 1960s most automotive keyrings for British & European cars were made in England by just a few manufacturers – of which Melsom Products Ltd had become the largest with the demise of Castles Unit Development Co ( CUD ) .
Porsche motor cars were still relatively rare on UK roads at that time with the result that very few keyrings were made for Porsche at the time ( Porsche themselves did not have their own keyrings made until much later )
CUD had made a few Porsche torpedo keyrings in the early to mid 1960s and then Melsom Products Ltd of Birmingham made these shortly afterwards in the mid to late 1960s .
We do have just one complete original Melsom Products Porsche keyring in our reference collection which is shown here :-
This keyring is in light tan leather and does have Melsom’s ‘Keyflix’ registered mark embossed into the leather beneath the badge – this can just be seen above.
Melsom Products nearly always used either black or light tan leather for their keyfobs – although it is known that a leatherworks in Walsall ( Heath & Machin ) mounted most of Melsom’s badges onto leather keyfobs on their behalf .
The original example which we have above is mounted onto a keyfob in light tan leather and we have gone to some trouble to source this exact leather in order to offer a keyring with the badge mounted just the same as the original from over 50 years ago.
The leather keyfobs are hand stitched in exactly the same grade & colour of thread .
We have chosen to omit the ‘keyflix’ embossed detail beneath the badge as it is not our intention that one of our remounted badges could be confused with a completely intact original example which would be worth very much more of course.
The remounted badge with a light tan keyfob is shown in the listing photos together with the other option of a keyfob in black leather .
Either version can be ordered ( please choose black or London tan leather colour )
We also have a number of original RAYDEK Porsche keyfob badges ( which were produced slightly later than these Melsom badges ) which do look very similar and which are also listed remounted here in a separate listing here in this website shop .
