This listing is to order this reproduction 1960s torpedo keyring with the badge mounted onto a black pigskin leather torpedo keyfob rather than the standard leather torpedo keyfob .
Pigskin was sometimes used for keyrings by manufacturers of prestige marques ( especially Aston Martin ) and was prized for it’s appearance and also for it’s strength and durability .
The black pigskin leather which we use is of a grade suitable for making keyfobs out of and is already vintage material being many years old .
This reproduction Porsche torpedo keyring is correct for use with any 1960s or very early 1970s Porsche – 356, 912 or 911.
It would not have been used in any car after the early 1970s as the torpedo design became regarded as being very old fashioned when keyrings of more modern design appeared in the 1960s.
The badge mounted onto this torpedo keyring has been based on original examples which we have held in our reference collection and is correct for the pre-1973 cars – the later Porsche crest badge without the top white enamel segment came in with the impact bumper cars in 1973.
Original Porsche torpedo keyrings made by Castles Unit Development Co. of Leicester ( CUD ) are one of the most sought after and rarest of all automotive keyrings .
Please note that the Porsche torpedo keyring available in this listing is not an original item dating from the 1960s !!
Having said that – at least you would feel comfortable using one of these reproduction keyrings in your car…………………an original torpedo keyring could be more likely to be stolen than the car itself !
As a footnote – Jaguar concours events in USA are now allowing our reproduction Jaguar torpedo keyrings to accompany cars rather than risk having valuable originals on show in the cars.
