A Rolls Royce commemorative keyring which was produced over 50 years ago !!
We have just this one example of this keyring to offer ( the only example which we have ever seen )
When this keyring has been sold this listing will be cancelled .
At first sight this keyring could be mistaken as ‘ Just another keyring with a badge depicting a vintage car ‘.
However it is rather more than that ……………….
This keyring was made by Windsor of Birmingham long before they became the world renowned Manhattan Windsor Company who went on to become the most prolific manufacturer of car keyrings and responsible for the best quality car keyrings ever made .
This is the only keyring which we have ever come across simply stamped ‘ Windsor – it must be one of the very first keyrings which they ever produced.
The keyring is very easy to date as the vitreous enamel badge is mounted onto a keyfob in black vinyl .
Vinyl keyfobs for cars like this one were only produced in the 1960s and possibly the very early 1970s .
Incredibly this keyring is in brand new mint condition and looks as though it could have been produced only yesterday .
It has obviously been in storage in perfect conditions since it was produced.
The vitreous enamel badge is of jewellery quality and the vinyl is as supple as the day it was produced.
Obviously this keyring was not intended to be used in a Rolls Royce Silver Ghost – the last one of those was built in 1926 – long before car keyrings came into general use.
It will have been produced as a keyring commemorating the Silver Ghost – possibly commissioned at the time by Rolls Royce themselves.
Production of the original Rolls Royce Silver Ghost commenced in 1908 in Manchester but production was then soon moved to the Derby works where around 6000 of the cars were built until 1926 when the model was replaced by the Rolls Royce Phantom .
Between 1921 & 1926 over 1000 cars were also produced in Springfield Massachusetts USA .
Originally named the 40/50 hp – but soon all the 40/50s were being called Silver Ghosts although Rolls Royce did not recognise the name until 1925 when the Phantom was introduced.
The Silver Ghost was the origin of Rolls Royce’s claim of making the best car in the world .
The keyring in the photos is the actual one which you will receive .
