This is an important example of an original Sunbeam Rapier keyring- and we have just this one to offer which is the only one which we have ever seen of this type in the last 10 years.
New old stock – so in excellent condition and has been in dry storage for around 50 years since the 1960s.
The vitreous enamel badge is mounted onto an excellent quality keyfob in high grade full grain leather with gold embossing.
Made by a manufacturing business whose trademark was ‘Trend’ as can be seen embossed onto the back of the keyfob- we do see examples of their keyrings for other makes of car from time to time.
Despite comprehensive research we have never discovered who they actually were ! Small enamelling businesses came & went rather rapidly in the 1960s & 1970s – many were based in the Birmingham area which had a tradition of vitreous enamelling.
There may have been a tie-up with a badgemaker known as ‘Alexander’ – occasionally a badge marked ‘Alexander’ crops up mounted onto a ‘Trend’ leather keyfob.
A top quality British made item produced at a time when many items like this were becoming mass produced & very poorly finished.
The keyring is original & correct for any late 1950s or early 1960s Sunbeam Rapier I -V motor car- and would enhance the value of any vehicle it is put with by far more than the cost of the keyring.
The ignition key & keyring are the first thing that a potential buyer has in their hands on a test drive !
The keyring in the photos is the actual one which you will receive.
When it has been sold this listing will cancel.
