Triumph Spitfire - original vintage 1960s CUD torpedo keyring - collector's item

1 in stock

An incredibly rare keyring – we do not recall having ever seen another Triumph Spitfire torpedo keyring over the last 10 years.

Condition of this keyring is excellent .

The vitreous enamel badge is almost perfect – a slight enamel chip in the light blue enamel at 4 0’clock on the face of the badge.

This can hardly be seen when viewed at life size in the flesh- but can be seen in the magnified high resolution photos in the listing.

The badge is mounted onto the genuine leather torpedo keyfob which is also in excellent condition with good tight stitching and pleasingly polished by many years of use.

The base of the badge has marked the leather where it has fretted on the leather many thousands of times over the bumps in the road encountered during countless thousands of miles of travel.

The thin leather hinge securing the badge to the leather fob is still in perfect condition.

These torpedo keyfobs were only made by one firm – the famous Castles Unit Development Co. of Leicester ( CUD )

Their badges are usually marked ‘CUD Made in England’

This badge is not marked accordingly and has a plain stippled back.

The reason for this is that CUD only produced their own badges for their torpedo keyfobs if they anticipated volume sales worthy of the expense of making a die for making the badges.

In that case the badges would have been marked ‘CUD’.

In cases where they didn’t expect to sell many keyrings then they would buy the badges in – which is what has happened here- and very few torpedo keyrings will have been made for Triumph Spitfire.

This example could quite possibly be one of only a very few – if any – left remaining .

CUD in their wisdom did not expect the Triumph Spitfire to sell in any great numbers.

By the time the car had proved them wrong they had already gone to the wall and were no longer producing keyrings.

This keyring is original & correct for use with any early Triumph Spitfire ( 1962 onwards )

Needless to say – the cars themselves are relatively common in comparison to this keyring !

The keyring in the photos is the actual one which you will receive.

When it has been sold this listing will be cancelled.
