Porsche – original vintage new old stock 1990s Manhattan Windsor keyring – collector’s item

A superb original new old stock Manhattan Windsor Porsche keyring which we would think will have been produced during the 1990s – towards the end of Manhattan Windsor’s production .

We have just this one example of this keyring to offer ( the only example which we have ever listed )  – when it has been sold this listing will be cancelled.

We cannot believe that we have never seen one of these keyrings before – a Porsche keyring produced by Manhattan Windsor of Birmingham who have become recognised as being the premier manufacturer of the finest British automotive keyrings ever produced – sadly they closed their doors some time ago having produced keyrings for over 30 years .

This is the only example of this particular Manhattan Windsor Porsche keyring with a Porsche crest badge  ( in any condition let alone the new old stock condition which this keyring is in ) that we have ever listed and we do wonder if it and possibly one or two more could have been pre-production samples which then never made it into production .

In any event Manhattan Windsor cannot have made many examples of this keyring – if any other examples –  otherwise we would have seen another one a long while ago .

We do know that a well respected and serious collector of Porsche keyrings in USA does have a keyring with a similar badge but mounted onto a keyfob in a different shape .

This lovely new old stock keyring has a nickel plated metal badge with jewellery quality vitreous enamelling of the highest standard .

There are tiny inclusions of black enamel in the translucent gold enamel which can be seen in the enlarged high resolution listing photos – these are not noticeable when the keyring is viewed in the hand at life size ( unless you are scrutinising the badge for them )

Vitreous enamelling was an art and tiny flaws like these were common & accepted .

Modern mass produced plastic resin enamel which has now replaced vitreous enamel is boringly consistent .

The reverse of the badge is marked with Manhattan Windsor’s M over W logo .

The badge is mounted onto a keyfob in genuine full grain black leather which is gold embossed ‘ TOP GRAIN LEATHER ‘ on the reverse of the keyfob .

This keyring has never been used and is still mounted onto the original display card.

The late 1960s CUD torpedo Porsche keyring has always been regarded as the ultimate and rarest of all Porsche keyrings – we have only ever listed and sold 3 examples over the years at a price very considerably higher than the listed price of this Manhattan Windsor keyring which could be equally rare or even rarer still .

The badge design which Manhattan have chosen to use on this keyring features the top segment of the badge in white enamel which Porsche ceased to use in the early 1970s coinciding with the introduction of impact bumpers on the 911 .

The keyring is therefore technically correct for use with earlier cars but we would think that it was produced with the intention of being used with later cars in the 1990s .

As such it will be one of the last top quality classic keyrings with a vitreous enamel badge mounted onto a genuine leather keyfob ever produced for use with a Porsche car .

This keyring would be the final splendid addition to that perfect car with the relatively high price of the keyring fading into insignificance compared to the value of the vehicle itself or even the price of an average spare part or accessory for that vehicle .
