Lambretta – original vintage 1950s keyring – collector’s item

You are unlikely to see many of these Lambretta keyrings !

This is a very rare example of what must be one of the very first keyrings ever produced for Lambretta and the only example which we have ever listed and also possibly the most significant Lambretta keyring which we have ever listed .

Automotive & motorcycle/ scooter keyrings only began to appear in the mid 1950s and we would think that this keyring will have been produced then .

Manufacturing centred on England where keyrings for the world’s cars & motorcycles/scooters began to be produced – by the 1960s this had become quite an industry.

One of the earliest producers was Castles Unit Development Co. of Leicester ( CUD ) who went on to produce the famous torpedo keyrings.

This particular keyring pre-dates CUD’s keyrings by several years however and could have been produced in Italy as it does not conform to any of the English designs .

This keyring is in really excellent condition with a vitreous enamel badge mounted onto a keyfob in genuine black leather.

The main body of vitreous enamel is in translucent red enamel – the attractive stippled ground beneath the enamel can be seen giving a glittering effect .

Surrounding this is a circle of solid blue enamel .

The translucent red enamel has some staining beneath the enamel which will have been there for a very long while – quite usual in the case of translucent enamel of this age ( if the enamel had been solid red enamel then the staining would still have been present but would not be visible of course )

Apart from that the enamel is in remarkably good shape with no chips or scratches.

The enamel badge is mounted onto a genuine leather keyfob of generous thickness in excellent condition with bold stitching .

A small ring connects the splitring to the keyfob – the splitring could have been replaced at a later stage as it looks to be a typical 1960s item .

This keyring will be original & correct for use with any 1950s or early 1960s Lambretta motor scooter .

The keyring in the photos is the actual one which you will receive – ultra-rare keyrings of this quality demand a premium and we had to pay a premium price in order to put it into stock .
