Jaguar – original vintage 1970s ‘black growler’ keyring – loss of gilt plating on badge

An original Jaguar keyring which will have been produced in the 1970s .

Just this one keyring to offer in this condition – when it has been sold this listing will be cancelled.

This keyring is in very good condition apart from the gilt plating having disappeared completely from the growler head in the centre of the badge – this would have originally been plated like the metalwork in the rest of the badge.

Having said that – the badge does look perfectly presentable without the plating !

Originally the entire badge would have been gilt plated as can still be seen at the top of the badge .

Apart from where the plating has disappeared altogether on the growler’s head  – the gilt finish has worn from the surface of the plating at the bottom of the badge over the JAGUAR text just leaving bright nickel plating showing .

The badge is enamelled in black vitreous enamel which is in perfect condition together with growler’s red enamel detail .

The badge is mounted onto a keyfob in genuine light tan leather which is in very good condition .

Similar ‘black growler’ keyrings were produced by several different British manufacturers at the time – this particular one is not marked with a maker’s name.

Examples of this keyring are shown in Bud Marston’s ‘Vintage Jaguar Keyrings’ book featured at the beginning of the Jaguar section here in this website shop .

Bud states that despite the keyring probably having been produced in considerable quantity this keyring is difficult to locate nowadays.

The keyring in the photos is the actual one which you will receive and Bud tells us that this keyring is very similar to the keyring originally listed in the British Leyland Jaguar Series 3 E-Type parts catalogue . SMOSO   00/521   11/22
