Ace Cafe London - original 1960s gilt badge remounted onto a new leather keyfob

NOW SOLD – sorry this keyring has now been sold and can no longer be ordered

An original Ace Cafe London vitreous enamel on gilt badge which will have been produced in the 1960s which we have remounted onto a new leather keyfob as can be seen in the photos.

When this keyring with this badge has been sold this listing will be cancelled.

New Ace Cafe keyrings with resin enamel on chrome badges are two a penny on internet auction sites …………..but genuine originals from the 1960s are a very different matter .

Very few have survived over the last 50 years and this badge is the only one that we have ever seen and listed.

The badge is in superb condition with black & white vitreous enamel hand laid into a gilt badge.

As usually happens with these old gilt badges – the gilt has mellowed to give a lovely muted golden glow giving an impression of age which just cannot be replicated by artificial means.

Just imagine the scenes which this badge has been part of – when The Ace Cafe on London’s North Circular Road was the premier destination for many of the South of England’s bikers & rockers mounted on their Nortons, BSAs, Triumphs and other 1960s bikes.

All of these characters rubbed shoulders with the truckers who used the 24 hour facilities for much needed egg & chips & pint mugs of tea in those exciting post war days.

The Ace Cafe originally opened in 1938 but was demolished during the blitz in 1940 during an air raid on the adjoining railway marshalling yards.

It was rebuilt and reopened in 1949 to enjoy 20 years in the sun before closing in 1969 as a result of changing attitudes to transport cafes and travel facilities in general .

A germ of an idea in 1994 resulted in the Cafe reopening in 2001 from when it has continued to go from strength to strength.

This keyring must be the ultimate addition for that 1960s Norton Commando, BSA Gold Star or Triumph Bonneville.

Nothing else can come close.

This keyring embodies everything which we set out to do 12 years ago…………………..to restore 50 year old talisman keyrings to enable them to continue in use until the final sunset of individual personal transport drops below the horizon .

The keyring in the photos is the actual one which you will receive. SMOSO   00/941   11/10
