1 in stock
An original AGIP petroleum keyfob badge which will have been produced in the 1960s which we have remounted onto a new leather keyfob as can be seen in the photos .
We have just this one keyring with this badge to offer – when it has been sold this listing will be cancelled .
What a remarkable keyfob badge – and only the 3rd original example which we have ever listed over the years .
The 1st one was still attached to it’s original vinyl keyfob but this badge came to us loose without it’s original keyfob so we have remounted it onto a new keyfob in full grain black leather with a particularly attractive grain .
This nickel plated vitreous enamel badge is in very good condition with solid yellow enamel and the six legged dog in solid black enamel is breathing fire in translucent red enamel .
There is a ‘bump’ in the yellow enamel ( rather than an enamel chip ) beneath the dog’s fore leg which can be seen in the enlarged high resolution photos – apart from that there is very little to report .
This dramatic animal must be one of the most striking automotive images to have been produced in the 20th Century and on a par with Mr. Mercury of National Benzole – also a petroleum company and also curiously using yellow enamel as the principal colour on the badge .
The keyfob badge was produced in England by the well known badgemakers Sculthorp & Co. of Blackfriars Road London .
Sculthorps had ceased trading by the mid to late 1960s so we know that this badge dates from before then .
AGIP ( Azienda Generale Italiana Petroli ) – the Italian automotive petroleum company were founded in 1926 and were associated with & sponsored Ferrari from 1974 until 1995 .
They also had associations with other Italian makers – including Maserati & Lamborghini .
Their trademark was the six legged dog representing the four wheels of the vehicle and the driver’s two legs with a red flame issuing from the dog’s mouth .
The keyring in the photos is the actual one which you will receive – a superb keyring for the owner of any relevant Italian car who still likes to drive with a traditional leather keyfob – like we do !
