BMW – original vintage late 1960s/ early 1970s keycase

The BMW key case in this listing is an original vintage item which will have been produced in the very late 1960s or early 1970s.

We have just this one key case to offer – when this key case has been sold this listing will be cancelled.

A very rare item – this is the only BMW keycase which we have ever listed .

We have previously listed original BMW key wallets but this key case will have been produced slightly earlier than the key wallets and is of a different design .

Apart from the key wallets which we have listed – we have also seen other examples in poor condition which suggests that BMW owners used the key wallets on a daily basis at the time with the result that very few have survived .

We have dated this keycase to the late 1960s or early 1970s but would think that it is more likely to be 1960s .

It is hardly bigger than a keyring and the ignition key would be safely nestled within the case and is actually a rather better thing to keep in the pocket than a keyring with a bunch of keys jangling around .

The ignition key would be attached to the splitring and when in use would be in the car ignition with the keycase hanging down from it – like a keyring .

When not in use the ignition key would be drawn inside the keycase for safe keeping by pulling it inside the case using the leather strap which would then be secured using the press stud as can be seen in the photos .

The main body of the case measures approximately 2″ x 3″ ( 50mm x 75mm )

It is in very good condition as can be seen in the photos with a vitreous enamel badge mounted onto the case which is in genuine black leather .

The enamel badge is securely mounted onto the case but is rather ‘askew’ as can be seen ………..these items would have been hand assembled at the time and the case will have been thus for over 50 years .

Where the little leather strap fits to the splitring had become weak – so we have strengthened this – you would not have known if we had not pointed this out but if we make any repair we always reveal it .
