Cobra - original vintage 1960s keyring - collector's item

An original Cobra keyring which will have been produced in the 1960s .

Just this one example to offer  – when this keyring has been sold this listing will be cancelled.

An original Cobra keyring in very good condition – and the only example of it’s type which we have ever seen and listed over the last 10 years.

The vitreous enamel badge is enamelled in solid black enamel + translucent red, white & blue enamel and is mounted onto a keyfob in genuine black leather .

A nickel plated Cobra in 3D relief takes centre stage in the centre of the badge – quite remarkable.

One very slight surface scratch in the black enamel ( so insignificant that it does not show up in the enlarged high resolution listing photos ) and the leather keyfob shows signs of having been used.

On the reverse of the badge is a small etching reading ‘JAPAN’ .

We are all now used to almost everything we buy having been made in the Far East – but this keyring was produced long before that trend developed.

In the 1960s Japanese Manufacturing Industry was still in a state of recovery after the war and many small high quality items like this one were produced.

At the same time that manufacturing capability was gearing up for far greater things and soon came to dominate motor cycle production and other avenues.

This is the only automotive keyring which we have ever seen with ‘JAPAN’ etched on the badge reverse – we doubt if many keyrings were produced in Japan .
