Home / Online Shop / Daimler – original vintage 1960s CUD torpedo keyring – collector’s item
NOW SOLD – sorry this keyring has now been sold and can no longer be ordered
An original Daimler CUD torpedo keyring which will have been produced in the 1960s .
We have just this one example of this keyring in this condition to offer – when it has been sold this listing will be cancelled.
We are also currently listing an identical keyring ( unless now sold ) but with some wear to the badge mount – both of these keyrings came to us a pair .
Original Daimler CUD torpedo keyrings are scarce items and we can only remember listing very few examples over the years – it is most unusual to receive 2 keyrings together !
This torpedo keyring in this listing is in excellent physical condition for it’s age .
Despite the ‘cosmetic’ flaws described in detail below this keyring is in very good serviceable condition and could be used in a car as intended with every confidence .
In many ways we much prefer to find a keyring in this well used but completely sound condition rather than a mint condition one ,
The patina displayed on this keyring has taken many years of use and very many miles in a car to develop and is something which only a combination of years and miles can produce.
The nickel plated vitreous enamel badge is in fair condition with some surface wear and a little bit of damage to the red enamel at the base of the badge which can be seen in the enlarged high resolution photos .
Additionally the enlarged photos reveal what looks to be a split in the back of the badge – this is actually a crack in the surface nickel plating so is not a split in the badge as such .
The badge is mounted onto a torpedo keyfob in genuine tan pigskin leather .
The leather keyfob is in very good condition and has become polished with use over the years .
The stitching is good and tight and the brass eyelet through which the splitring passes is still well mounted .
The reverse of the keyfob is gold embossed with the details of the dealership which issued it all those years ago .
This keyring was made by – Castles Unit Developments Ltd of Castle Gate, Leicester ( CUD )
CUD were the main manufacturers of torpedo keyrings and were famous in the late 1950s and right through the 1960s for the quality of their products which were exported worldwide.
At that time almost all keyrings for the world’s motor cars were made in England – it was quite an industry.
The keyring in the photos is the actual one which you will receive . SMOSO 00551(c.00001)0326
