Jaguar - original late 1950s standing wings keyfob badge owner-mounted onto a brass keyfob

An original Jaguar keyfob badge which will have originally been produced in the late 1950s or possibly the very early 1960s which has been mounted onto a keyfob in brass plate at some stage in it’s later life .

We have just this one example of this keyring to offer – when it has been sold this listing will be cancelled .

This is a keyring which we have never seen another example of ……………and never expect to see another in the future !

Up until around 20 years ago an old Jaguar keyring was exactly that – just an old keyring .

Jaguar drivers and keyring owners understandably had no inkling that the keyrings would ever become valuable collector’s items and had no regard for originality or any scruples about damaging originality – if it was broke they mended it ……………………..

And that is exactly what has happed here !

The original leather keyfob will have worn out and broken and rather than attempt to remount it onto a new leather keyfob ( or take it to a saddler or cobbler for remounting as often did happen ) the owner cut the metal loop off the top of the badge and then crafted a solid brass keyfob and riveted the badge onto the brass keyfob with aluminium rivets !

A brass loop was even crafted at the top of the keyfob to accomodate the splitring .

The whole thing actually works very well ( and certainly will not wear out again anytime soon ! )

In years to come in this 21st Century it will probably become highly regarded as an example of the creativity of 20th Century Jaguar owners – and is already beginning to gather some of that regard even now .
