NOW SOLD – sorry this keyring has now been sold and can no longer be ordered
An original Jaguar keyring which will have been produced in the early 1960s and will then have been intended for issue with a new Jaguar motor car sold by Appleyards .
Just this one example to offer – when it has been sold this listing will be cancelled .
This melsom keyring is almost the ‘benchmark’ Jaguar keyring and this particular example is the only one which we have ever seen with a Jaguar dealer’s details embossed on the back.
Made by Melsom Products Ltd of Birmingham whose name appears on the reverse of the badge and with Appleyard Turf Motors details gold embossed onto the back of the leather keyfob .
Appleyards were one of the best known Jaguar dealerships in the North of England – supplying many hundreds if not thousands of Jaguar motor cars to ‘Executive’ customers at that time .
The keyring is in new old stock condition with a vitreous enamel badge mounted onto a keyfob in genuine light tan leather .
The stitching is rather erratic which was commonplace at the time !
The keyfobs were machine stitched but the stitching machines were hand operated and prone to variation in the no. of stitches per inch etc – all part of the charm of vintage keyrings .
In his ‘Vintage Jaguar Keyrings’ book featured at the beginning of this Jaguar section in our website shop, Bud Marston describes and photographs examples of these keyrings – but without dealership details embossed as this keyring has.
The keyring in the photos is the actual one which you will receive and is a collector’s item in it’s own right .
If it were to be placed with a car known to have passed through Appleyards – then it would be of even greater interest . SMOSOÂ Â 00/551Â Â 10/22
