Jaguar XK120 – original restored bonnet badge

An original Jaguar XK120 bonnet badge which came to us in a collection of vintage Jaguar keyrings .

The cream vitreous enamel plate behind the Growler’s head was in a very poor shape – so we sent the badge to the small firm of vitreous enamellers for restoration .

The badge was with them for over a year ( their lead time is very extended ) .

It was then returned to us with a new cream vitreous enamel disc which is a work of art in itself.

The Jaguar growler head is still in exactly the same condition in which it came to us – it has not been re-plated or re-touched and is in the original finish .

The enamellers chose to re-plate the rest of the badge which is now rather shiny and would benefit from toning down somewhat – which will happen in time .

From the photos it can be seen that one of the mounting studs on the back of the badge is missing.

This item is not something which we have expertise in – so we have set the price to simply give us a small return on the proportionate price which we paid for the badge together with the cost of restoration .

We do notice that reproduction badges sell for around £50 each – but you can see from the Growler’s head that this is unlikely to be a reproduction .
