Land Rover – original 1960s vitreous enamel badge melsom products keychain – collector’s item

NOW SOLD – sorry this keyring has now been sold and can no longer be ordered

An original Land Rover keychain which will have been produced in the 1960s .

Just this one example to offer -when this keychain has been sold this listing will be cancelled.

Please note that this keychain does have a chip in the surface of the vitreous enamel at the edge on the right hand side of the badge .

Hardly noticeable in the enlarged high resolution listing photos ( arrowed ) and not particularly noticeable either when viewed at life size with the naked eye .

This is one of very few examples of this early Land Rover keychain which we have ever listed – although we did list and sell another couple all from the same source very recently – these are rare items .

Some of these were produced in nickel plating whilst others were produced in gilt plating – this one is gilt plated .

This particular one is in excellent condition apart from the enamel chip already mentioned.

The gilt plated vitreous enamel badge in lemon yellow enamel is mounted onto a gilt plated snakechain and is quite a dainty item to have been used in a Land Rover !

The badge measures 1″ ( 25mm ) in width and the entire item measures 2.75″ ( 70mm ) from top to bottom .

Date correct for use with 1958 – 1971 Land Rover Series II & 1960 -1971 Series IIA .

Would also be correct for late 1950s Land Rover Series I .

These tiny items were used on a daily basis and soon got lost or the keychain snapped and they were thrown away – hence very few will have survived .

Keychains like these were the very first car keyrings which were ever produced before leather keyrings with badges came into common use .

This one was produced quite late as most keychains were produced in the 1950s – but this must be a 1960s item as it is marked Melsom Products Ltd who did not appear until the 1960s .

Keychains like these are well documented in Bud Marston’s ‘Vintage Jaguar Keyrings’ book which is featured at the beginning of our Jaguar section here in this website shop.
