Original Land Rover keychain badges which will have been produced in the 1960s which we have provided with replacement keychains and splitrings ( see full details below )
We have several of these keychains to offer – when they have all been sold this listing will be cancelled.
Over the years we have listed and sold just three of these original Land Rover keychains both of which still retained their original chains – they were quite small items just the same as the ones we are offering here although the chain design was different and more flimsy – probably the reason that so few originals have survived intact as they were intended for use in what were essentially working vehicles at the time .
Being used in working vehicles meant that the keychains received the same level of abuse as the vehicles themselves !
Keychains like these would have been used on a daily basis and soon got lost or the keychain snapped and they were thrown away – hence very few will have survived .
The keychains which we are offering in this listing have original badges which will have been produced in the 1960s but came to us without the original keychains and splitrings still attached.
In that case we have fitted replacement keychains in the correct gilt finish to match the badges – the keychains & splitrings which we have fitted are original new old stock 1970s items .
These badges are new old stock gilt plated items with lemon yellow vitreous enamelling .
Produced in the 1960s by Melsom Products Ltd of Birmingham who were one of the two most prolific manufacturers of excellent quality keyrings at that time .
The badges measure 1″ ( 25mm ) in width and the entire items measure 3.00″ ( 75mm ) from top of the splitring to the base of the badge .
Date correct for use with 1958 – 1971 Land Rover Series II & 1960 -1971 Series IIA .
Would also be correct for late 1950s Land Rover Series I .
Keychains like these were the very first car keyrings which were ever produced before leather keyrings with badges came into common use .
Keychains like these are well documented in Bud Marston’s ‘Vintage Jaguar Keyrings’ book which is featured at the beginning of our Jaguar section here in this website shop.
