Over the last 10 years we have seen possibly 2 or 3 of these keyrings – they are very scarce items and attract a good deal of interest on the rare occasions that one comes up for sale.
Made in the late 1980s by the famous Manhattan Windsor Co. of Birmingham – their details are cast into the back of the badge.
The ‘old school’ vitreous enamel badge on this keyring is very substantial and also very detailed and intricate .
Whilst the leather keyfob itself has seen very considerable use and is now worn in and polished with use like a comfortable pair of boots :- the enamel badge is completely intact and without an enamel chip or even a small scratch – quite remarkable !
This keyring will have travelled the length & breadth of the UK many times over and probably most of Europe as well.
For the badge to have remained in this condition this keyring will have received very careful use and will have been kept in the original owner’s pocket in between use.
It was obviously a treasured possession and a badge of honour.
It has now been received by us to be treated simply as merchandise amongst all of our other vintage keyrings- which seems rather sad.
We can only hope that it now passes to a custodian who will appreciate it’s importance and worth.
A keyring in this very carefully used condition is of far greater value than a new old stock keyring which has spent it’s life forgotten at the back of a cupboard drawer rather than out on the open road.
Original & correct for 1981 -1992 mid engined Leyland bus.
The keyring in the photos is the actual one which you will receive.
When it has been sold then this listing will cancel.
We have a suspicion that a certain customer of ours will find and buy this keyring – his initials are MB and he lives in a country beginning with S………………….!!!
