Mercedes Benz – original late 1950s CUD torpedo keyring – collector’s item

£375.00

1 in stock

An original Mercedes Benz torpedo keyring which will have been produced in the late 1950s .

We have just this one example of this keyring to offer – when this keyring has been sold this listing will be cancelled .

A very scarce keyring – this is one of only 2 examples of an original Mercedes Benz torpedo keyring with this badge design which we have ever seen and listed over the years .

During that time we have also listed and sold just 2 other Mercedes Benz torpedo keyrings with a different badge design in light blue enamel .

This keyring was made by Castles Unit Development Co. of Leicester UK – the famous ‘CUD’ Company .

Castles were the very first manufacturers of car keyrings from the mid to late 1950s until the very late 1960s when they became ‘Craftsman’ with a rumoured USA connection and then disappeared .

During the late 1950s and the 1960s they made keyrings with this distinctive torpedo shape which sadly abruptly went out of fashion in the late 1960s when conventional keyrings as we know them today became much better preferred .

This keyring is in really excellent condition with the vitreous enamel badge mounted onto a torpedo keyfob in genuine black leather .

The vitreous enamel badge with a deep cobalt blue enamel border is in mint condition whilst the leather keyfob is showing hardly any signs of use .

The leather which CUD used was usually goatskin with a very fine pebbly grain which can be seen in the listing photos .

Original Mercedes Benz torpedo keyrings like this one are much rarer than original Jaguar torpedo keyrings that are now so valuable & collectible that Bud Marston in USA has written a book entitled ‘Vintage Jaguar keyrings’ which is featured at the start of our Jaguar section here in this website shop.

This keyring will be  original & correct for use with any late 1950s or 1960s Mercedes Benz motor car .

The keyring in the photos is the actual one which you will receive.
