An original new old stock Gale Melville MG keyring with a tan vinyl keyfob which will have been produced in the late 1950s or very early 1960s .

The keyring in the photos is the actual one which you will receive – when this keyring has been sold this listing will be cancelled.

Dating from the late 1950s or very early 1960s – when there were plenty of MGAs, Magnettes and still some MGTDs & MGTFs  in daily use on the roads – this keyring would be ideal for use with any of those models.

This 60+ year old keyring has obviously been in storage and is still in absolutely mint unused condition – quite remarkable !

The bright gold plated badge with jewellery quality red vitreous enamel detail is mounted onto a keyfob in tan vinyl material and is an example of the superb quality keyrings which were produced for use with cars all those years ago ……………how different to most car keyrings being produced overseas today .

Vinyl was sometimes used for keyfobs at the time rather than leather – particularly where the cars which the keyring was intended to be used with were generally open topped like MGs .

Having said that – if the leather keyfob had got wet goodness knows what the rest of the car interior would have been like !

Made by Gale Melville Ltd of Surbiton in Surrey – one of the first manufacturers of automotive keyrings – their details are marked on the back of the badge .

Keyrings like this one were produced to be used in open top MG cars in all weathers and not many original MG leather keyrings like this one will have survived at all – let alone in this condition

MGTD ( 1949 – 1953 ) & MGTF ( 1953 – 1958 ) were produced just before car keyrings came into general use .

Owners of those vehicles would probably have used their cars without keyrings initially but would then have bought a keyring like this one to use with the car as car keyrings began to become available .
