An original MG keychain badge which will have been produced in the mid to late 1950s which we have mounted onto a replacement snakechain as the original was missing .

We have just this example of this rare keychain badge – when this keychain has been sold this listing will be cancelled.

An original vitreous enamel enamel on gilt MG keychain badge dating from the mid to late 1950s which we have mounted onto a replacement snakechain and splitring in the same design as the original would have been .

The badge is in excellent condition and has ‘MADE IN ENGLAND’ and a curious capital ‘B’ within a circle and a smaller ‘C’ within a circle on the reverse .

We have never discovered who this manufacturer was but have seen this mark several times particularly on the reverse of Jaguar badges when we have had them in stock .

Bud Marston in USA – the author of the famous ‘Vintage Jaguar Keyrings ‘ book featured in our Jaguar section here in this website shop – describes this mark in his book and wonders if the ‘C’ within a circle stood for ‘copyright’ .

The replacement snakechain & splitring is of some age ( probably 1970s/1980s ) as we have a small stock of new old stock chains dating from around those times .

Please note that the snakechain is not from the 1950s .

These keychains were the very first car keyrings which were ever produced – we have never seen any for any make of vehicle that are older.

They preceded the keyrings with leather keyfobs which started to make an appearance in the very late 1950s.

This keychain would probably have been originally purchased for use with an MG TD or TF or early MG Magnette or MGA .

Owners of TD’s and TF’s bought keychains to use with their cars as keychains became available – at a later time than when their cars were built .

The MG keychain in the photos is the actual one which you will receive.
