1 in stock

An original MG torpedo keyring which will have been produced in the 1960s .

We have just this one example of this very scarce keyring to offer – when it has been sold this listing will be cancelled .

Over the last almost 20 years we have listed very few original MG torpedo keyrings and so far as we can remember none of those were in the new old stock condition that this keyring is in .

This keyring is in brand new condition and will never have been used – quite remarkable .

These keyrings were produced at a time when keyrings were bought to be used and very few will have survived – let alone in this condition .

MG torpedo keyrings produced in the late 1950s and early 1960s were produced with not only MGA in mind but also MG TD & TF – many of these cars were still on the roads at that time and their owners would still have been in the market for a keyring to use with their car .

This keyring would look period correct in MG TD or TF even though it was produced at a later date .

MG TD & TF were produced between 1949 & 1955 at a time when car keyrings had not yet appeared .

It was only after car keyrings first came into general use in the late 1950s that owners of TDs & TFs were able to buy keyrings to use with their cars .

This keyring is in new old stock condition with a vitreous enamel badge mounted onto a keyfob in genuine black leather .

This keyring will have been produced by Castles Unit Developments Ltd of Castle Gate, Leicester ( CUD )

CUD were the main manufacturers of torpedo keyrings and were famous in the late 1950s and right through the 1960s for the quality of their products which were exported worldwide.

The badges were mounted onto the keyfobs either by means of a metal loop on top of the badge or ( as in this case ) a couple of steel ‘lugs’ securing the badge through the top layer of leather .

Badges secured to the keyfob in this fashion always had some movement tending to ‘wobble’ a little on the keyfob ! – Nothing to worry about – they were all like this .

The fine pebbly grain of the leather keyfob tells us that this is goatskin which CUD torpedos were usually produced in .

Original torpedo keyrings for any make of car are scarce and valuable – particularly if they are in this condition .

An original Jaguar torpedo keyring in this condition would be worth 4 or 5 times the listed price of this keyring and Jaguar torpedos are relatively common compared to MG ones.

The keyring in the photos is the actual one which you will receive – the very best of the best .
