Pontiac GTO – original vintage 1960s CUD/ Craftsman torpedo keyring – collector’s item

NOW SOLD – sorry this keyring has now been sold and can no longer be ordered

The keyring in this listing is an original vintage Pontiac GTO torpedo keyring which will have been produced in the 1960s .

We have just this one example of this keyring to offer – when this keyring has been sold this listing will be cancelled

An original Pontiac GTO torpedo keyring dating from the 1960s.

This keyring is in excellent condition – probably new old stock .

Made by Castles Unit Developments Ltd of Castle Gate, Leicester ( CUD ) who changed their name to Craftsman in the late 1960s .

CUD were the only manufacturers of torpedo keyrings at the time and were famous from the late 1950s and right through the 1960s for the quality of their products which were exported worldwide.

At that time almost all keyrings for the world’s motor cars were made in England – it was quite an industry.

The jewellery quality enamelling on this vitreous enamel badge is perfect and the badge is mounted onto a torpedo keyfob in genuine hide .

The splitring eyelet is as strongly mounted as when new and the stitching is all good & tight .

These keyrings were an absolute work of art and their quality has never been bettered .

As with all CUD torpedo keyrings which have the the badge physically attached to the keyfob ( like this example ) – the badge stands slightly proud of the keyfob surface and can ‘wobble’ about very slightly .

Some CUD torpedo badges ‘wobble ‘ around to an alarming degree – but have been doing that without fail for 60 years !

The pebbly grain of the leather suggests that this leather is actually goatskin – later keyrings produced by Craftsman ( CUD changed their name to ‘Craftsman’ for a short period in the late 1960s ) were embossed during the Craftsman period with ‘ REAL MOROCCO ‘ which is a term for goatskin.

This particular keyring in this listing does not have the keyfob embossed – so we would think that it is pre-Craftsman period .

The term ‘Morocco’ could be an American expression and a link between Craftsman & USA has been rumoured but not substantiated .

This keyring is original & correct for 1964 – 1974 Pontiac GTO but would be particularly appropriate for an earlier 1960s car .

The keyring in the photos is the actual one which you will receive . SMOSO   00/59  ( 00/67 )  10/24
