Home / Online Shop / Porsche – original late 1960s Melsom Products Ltd vitreous enamel badge restored and remounted onto a new leather keyfob
NOW SOLD – sorry this keyring has now been sold and can no longer be ordered
An original Porsche keyfob badge which will have been produced by Melsom Products Ltd in Birmingham in the late 1960s which we had restored as described below and then remounted onto a new keyfob in full grain black leather as can be seen in the photos .
We are offering just this one keyring with this badge – when this keyring has been sold this listing will be cancelled .
A few of these Porsche melsom keyfob badges came to us some time back together with other keyfob badges having been in storage since Melsom Products Ltd closed their doors in the 1970s .
The storage conditions had not been ideal so we had to have the badges restored .
The nickel plating was re-plated and re-polished and the badges were then re-enamelled in the original vitreous enamel – the superb standard of this restoration can be seen in the photos .
This work was carried out here in England – sadly that can never happen again as so far as we know there is nobody left in Britain who can carry out that work .
We thought that we had remounted and sold all the badges which we had but have recently discovered this just this one remaining badge .
When this keyring with this badge has been sold – then this listing will be cancelled ………..and we have had a good look and this is definitely the last badge !
The badge will have been produced by Melsom Products Ltd of Birmingham in the mid to late 1960s – Melsoms were very prolific manufacturers of automotive keyrings for many makes of car at the time .
In the 1960s almost all keyrings for British & European cars were made in England by just a few manufacturers of whom Melsoms had become the largest following the demise of Castles Unit Development Co. ( CUD ) Manhattan Windsor had yet to come to the fore .
Porsche motor cars were still relatively rare on UK roads in the 1960s with the result that very few Porsche keyrings were made ( Porsche themselves did not have their own keyrings made in Germany until much later )
CUD had made just a few Porsche torpedo keyrings in the mid 1960s and then Melsom Products Ltd made keyrings with these badge shortly afterwards.
An original Melsom Products keyring with the badge mounted onto a keyfob in either black or tan leather would have had Melsom’s trademark ‘KEYFLIX’ stamp embossed into the leather beneath the badge .
Our keyring with this restored badge remounted onto a new leather keyfob does not have this ‘KEYFLIX’ emboss – to avoid it ever being confused with an original keyring .
The keyring with the badge in the photos is the actual one which you will receive.
An original Melsom Products Ltd Porsche keyfob badge is always going to be held in special regard – this is the keyring to have . SMOSO 005910626
